Wow! I don’t know where to start, I just finished the game and I thought it was incredible!! This is one of those games that when you finish, you realize you love all of the characters and will be sad to see them go. And in this story especially… I loved the main character, her voice acting in Japanese was so emotive. You could hear the pain in her screams and battle cries. This was a very dark entry, which I don’t often associate with such pleasant visuals. And this one takes ‘tragic backstory’ to a whole other level… without spoiling too much, imagine if you watched the person you loved most be sacrificed, and then you killed and possibly ate the rest of your friends and loved ones.
That’s the story that our heroine starts out with. And things seem to get WORSE from that point, if you can imagine. The ending doesn’t resolve things with a neat little bow either, it’s very bittersweet. I just beat the game and kind of feel like crying!. I would have preferred if more of the adult relationships were focused on rather than having that magical boy be the lynch-pin between Velvet and the others & her humanity… but that’s just me, always sniffing around for some yuri! 😛
If you like jrpgs, mature story lines, and are a fan of tragedy in any form, don’t miss this one! Starring a female protagonist who isn’t a weepy willow, yes please – she’s as dark and gritty as sidewalk at night!. Such a wonderful journey from Beginning to end. The music, the characters, the setting and world-building, the combat system, all beautifully made. There is nary a single conversation between the characters I wasn’t interested in.While there are many systems in the game for you to utilize, you don’t need to engage in them if you don’t want to. there is just playing through the game normally you shouldn’t really even end up under-leveled at any point. At least not enough for it to be of any significance.

And even if you do decide to go out of your way to grind exp or weapon mastery or whatever, the combat is always so fun and satisfying and dynamic you’ll be having fun regardless. As much as I would love to gush about the world and world-building, I don’t want to say anything much about it specifically. I think it’s best to go in blind. I first played this game when it came out in 2016 and after 6 years this game still aged perfectly . The gameplay is fun and exciting , story is alwast 10/10 , song is olso really good . If you are new to the tales series or have finished tales of arise and have never touch the other tales game i highly recommend give it a try tales of berseria take place 1000 years before tales of zestiria so if you want to play according to the timeline you can play tales of berseria first then tales of zestiria [any order is olso playable] . Really had a great time playing this game hopefully theres a new tales game comming soon in the future ..
